The town is the boyhood home of famous North Carolinian Andy Griffith. This video shows the Regional Museum, Wally’s Filling Station, the Courthouse, Floyd’s Barbershop and much more.
Only about an hour from our home, we love to take a Saturday afternoon ride up the mountain.

As a tourism ad, good. Tourism could help the economy. There are some very nice areas around Mt. Airy as well. Just realize Mt. Airy & Mayberry are not synonymous. I was born there; visited realtives often as I grew — my uncles were the only opticians in Mt. Airy for many years on a Main St. corner a couple of shops down from the Main Street Grill. Mt. Airy is a typical small town, slow-paced and natives looking to go elsewhere for diversion. Enjoy the whole area.
