We are looking to buy a house in the next few months, and it would be very helpful to look at floor plans for the houses we’re looking at. However, I’m not sure where to look (or even if there is anywhere you can look) to find a copy of the floor plan for the house.

I’m wondering if there is any way to get the plans for these houses, maybe they are held at a city planning office or something? Also, if we know the builder of the home, would it be possible to contact them and request a floor plan?

You can go to the TAX ASSESSORS page of the city or town where the property is located. Some offices are online, others are not… some are online but have a small fee to view, etc.

You can get basic information from these records – i.e., dimensions of foundation, dimensions of decks or sheds on the property … living space square footage, garages, central air, etc. They rarely give the exact floorplan of the home. In most cases you can also see what the current owner paid for the property, what is is assessed at and what the taxes are annually. There is usually a photo of the exterior of the house online too.

That is the best you can do short of viewing it in person.

There are not many that allow this any more. The problem is that when a floor plan is custom designed it needs to go through a bunch of building codes and state red tape before it can be built. So only a few companies can actually do this. Some companies will allow you to take an existing floor plan and customize it some. This is probably the closest you can come. Of course if you want a deal you are better off buying a display model.

Seriously though buying a trailer is a horrible idea. It will generally depreciate and will only be any good if it has a perfect installation, which most are not. I would not live in one if it were given me. I worked in that business as a regional manager for three years. Do yourself a favor and buy a real home and enjoy appreciation and nice low mortgage rates you won’t get with a trailer.

I apologise for putting this question in this catagory, it seemed to be the best place.
I am looking for 5 floor plans of historical homes that is/ was in Little Rock Ark. One, the most important one is The James H. Hornibrook Mansion aka The Empress of Little Rock B & B.
Any help would be appreciated. I am not able to travel, nor do I have money to pay. I would be happy with a sketch, or even really good pictures that are not listed on the web. I love Victorian Achitecture.

Try the local library to where the home is. Where I live we had a few presidents so the library is chock-full of stuff about their lives and homes. I think even some of the lesser known historical homes have their floorplans available to the public as well. Even if the library doesn’t have a museum as well, they might be able to point you to the local historical society or town hall for more info.
