Home design plans? How do I find good websites?

I’m trying to find FREE websites that will let me design a home, the floor plan and everything like that, so I can print it out and use it for the people who are going to build my family’s new house. So any suggestions?

These are all free and easy to use:

Here’s a good dowload:

http://www.smartdraw.com/specials/floorplans.asp

This one you make an acount to use:

Or you might consider looking for floor plans that already exist. This is a great site where you can search for the exact number of bedrooms, bathrooms, garages, stories, and the square footage you want:

I hope I helped, and good luck building your new home! :)

Where can I find the logs to make log furniture such as a bed.?

I have the plans but don’t know where to get the wood. I have asked at the local home improvement stores but they dont have it. I want to make a queen or king sized log bed.

I think answering your question with another question might help. Is there a local firewood seller in your area? they do cut and deliver right? my answer is : call a few up and ask for what you want. They would probably even be glad to cut the lengths to size for you! cheers~
p.s will probably cost a lot less from them too and who would know what woods are best to use and available

how do I find house plans for a home that is already built?

My Wife and I want to build a home. We found a house that we want to build and make a few modifications. How do I get a hold of the plans for this house that is already built so that I can give them to an architect to make the changes?

All I would need is the floor plan, and some photos of the roof style and exterior.

As long as you’re building a house, you’d want to make minor changes to introduce any new code or modern features that improve on the existing home.

If you know the house well, there are probably some little things that are annoying, Here’s your chance to make it perfect for just a little time upfront. Be sure to put new "rough-ins" for the future guest laundry, bath, and wet bar downstairs.

Also, make sure the new house is appropriate for the neighborhood and the lot. Sometimes a house plan looks great on paper, but looks ridiculous once it’s placed on the lot, in relation to the neighbors or the road, and so on. For instance, is the best driveway location really going to work with this house, or does the garage need to go someplace else? Stuff like that.

I’m planning on buying a laptop for my 3D Modeling/Animation work on the go, what brand would work best?

I’m considering a Dell XPS 1550 or Apple Mac Book Pro, but am open to other brands. This is the first laptop I would purchase, I currently have a custom built PC at home, but need something for all the plane traveling I’m doing recently. Please no Apple/PC bashing, I need some actual advice not that one or the other sucks/rocks. Thanks.

I would go with a Sony VAIO laptop as they have about the best graphics card and display I have seen on the market. Graphics and processing speed are of utmost importance when rendering in 3D (rather than the actual design work although it does help). Expect to spend between $900 to $2000 for the unit for the graphics and speed. There are several more 3D applications available for a Windows based PC rather than a OS X. I would go with a dual core processor with a minimum of 1GB of ram and a ATI Graphics Card if possible. There are others but I find ATI to be more widely compatible with 3D Software like:

3D Studio (Original DOS Version)
3D Studio MAX
Poser
Bryce
Lightwave
and many others.

Toshiba would be my next choice as they were the original designers of the Laptop and make a great product. Dell is good but is a bit pricey for people who know how to fix issues with computers (as Dell is best for tech support).
